When Was Your Anchor Point Last Inspected?

Here’s the thing: anchor points are the backbone of any fall protection system. If they fail, everything else does too. A harness, lanyard, and SRL can only protect you if the very point they connect to is rock solid.

That’s why we always say: “CHECK YOUR ANCHOR!”
If it’s not solid, neither are you.

From D-plates and davit arms to parapet anchors and lift points, every connection matters. Even the strongest gear is useless if it’s clipped to a weak link. And inspections shouldn’t just happen after something goes wrong. They should be part of your regular safety routine.

Here’s a quick mental checklist to run through:

  • Are the bolts and welds intact?

  • Any visible cracks, rust, or bending?

  • Is the anchor secured to a load-bearing surface?

  • Is the inspection tag up to date?

We’ve seen it too many times. Equipment that looks fine at a glance ends up being compromised when you really check. Sometimes it’s weather damage. Sometimes it’s improper installation. Sometimes it’s just age. But every time, it’s preventable.

A fall protection system is only as strong as its weakest component. Most of the time, that weak spot is the one you can’t see until it’s too late. So, before you step onto that roof, scaffold, or lift, take a moment to look at what’s holding you. That quick check might be the thing that brings you home at the end of the day.

Pro tip: Make anchor point inspections part of your job’s safety culture, not just a box to tick. A culture of awareness is what keeps teams safe, not luck.
