What Is the Issue?
Petzl has issued a safety alert for certain ASTRO and CANYON GUIDE professional harnesses. The concern involves the gated ventral attachment point located at the front of the harness.
Premature wear has been identified on the screws that secure the ventral D-ring. Under repeated side loading, the retaining pin could loosen. If this occurs while under load, the attachment point could open and create a serious fall hazard.
Which Harnesses Are Affected?
Harnesses manufactured before October 2023 are included in this alert.
- Locate the serial number inside the waistbelt
- Inspect the ventral D-ring and screws
- Confirm if your unit falls within the affected range
What Needs to Be Done?
Petzl is providing a free replacement kit that includes updated hardware. Owners of affected harnesses should contact Petzl directly to request the kit and follow the installation instructions provided.
Temporary Use Guidance
- If shackles are installed, interim use may be permitted
- If not installed, perform a manual pin inspection before each use
- If the pin slides out fully, remove the harness from service immediately
