Important Recall: European Versions of NEWTON, NEWTON FAST, and NEWTON EASYFIT Harnesses

Petzl has issued a voluntary recall for specific batches of the European versions of the NEWTON, NEWTON FAST, and NEWTON EASYFIT harnesses produced in 2022. The recall is due to a defect in the FAST LT buckle located on the chest strap. The issue could cause the buckle to open unexpectedly during a fall or while suspended, creating a serious safety risk. If you own one of these harnesses, stop using it immediately and set it aside. (petzl.com)

Which Harnesses Are Affected

The recall applies only to harnesses manufactured in 2022 with the following product references:

  • NEWTON

    • C073AA00, C073AA01, C073AA02

  • NEWTON FAST

    • C073BA00, C073BA01, C073BA02

  • NEWTON EASYFIT

    • C073CA00, C073CA01, C073CA02

You can confirm if your harness is affected by checking its serial number. The first digits indicate the manufacturing year and batch. Harnesses outside these ranges are not included in the recall. (petzl.com)

What You Should Do

If your harness is part of the affected batch:

  • Stop using it immediately.

  • Keep it stored securely so it cannot be used by mistake.

  • Return it to Petzl. The company will provide a free replacement and cover all shipping costs. (petzl.com)

If you are a distributor or retailer:

  • Do not sell or distribute any harnesses included in this recall.

  • Quarantine all affected stock.

  • Notify your customers.

  • Arrange the return of products to Petzl for exchange.

Additional Information

  • No accidents or injuries linked to this issue have been reported.

  • Only European models manufactured in 2022 are impacted. Harnesses sold outside Europe or produced in other years are not included.

  • Other Petzl harnesses that do not use the FAST LT chest buckle are not affected by this recall.
