(HAZARDOUS WASTE OPERATIONS AND EMERGENCY RESPONSE)

At Hazmat Plans & Programs, we tailor the HAZWOPER training course to the needs of your company and your employees. Our teaching methods are down-to-earth and have practical application for all students. Our mission is to provide all HAZWOPER students with the knowledge, tools, confidence and ability to make the right decisions and use safe work practices under stressful field conditions.

  • Some of the subjects covered in the HAZWOPER class are:
  • Scope and Application of the OSHA HAZWOPER Regulations
  • Chemical Behaviours and Properties
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Hazard Assessment and Analysis
  • Decontamination Procedures
  • Medical Surveillance
  • Confined Spaces
  • Hazard Communications
  • Blood-borne Pathogens
  • Industrial Hygiene
  • Spill Response and The Emergency Response Guide Book
  • Incident Command System
  • Hands-on Practical Exercises

The HAZWOPER Training Course takes place over five (5) consecutive days of approximately eight (8) hours each. A written examination will be given at the end of the course. Students will receive a picture I.D. card and a certificate upon completion of this course.

At Hazmat Plans & Programs we realize that other companies offer a type of HAZWOPER course online. The following excerpts are from a letter of interpretation issued by OSHA to explain the applicability of on-line training.

“OSHA urges employers to be wary of relying solely on generic "packaged" training programs in meeting their training requirements since training required under HAZWOPER includes site-specific elements which need to be tailored to the individual worker's assigned duties…

Safety and health training may often involve the presentation of technical material to audiences that typically have not had formal education in technical or scientific disciplines, such as in areas of chemistry or physiology. In an effective training program, it is critical that trainees have the opportunity to ask questions where material is unfamiliar to them…

For HAZWOPER training, equally important is the use of hands-on experience and exercises to provide trainees with an opportunity to become familiar with equipment and safe practices in a non-hazardous setting. Many industrial operations, particularly hazardous waste operations, involve complex hazardous tasks and exposures. Traditional hands-on training ensures that workers are prepared to safely perform their job assignments…”
