3M is issuing an important "Stop Use and Remediate" notice for specific 3M™ DBI-SALA® Sealed-Blok™ Self-Retracting Lifelines (SRLs) with retrieval function, specifically models with a 175 ft (approximately 53m) length manufactured from January 2022 to October 2024. This action is part of 3M's commitment to product quality and user safety, following findings from recent laboratory tests. Affected models may not perform as intended for retrieval functionality post-fall, which could expose users to risks of serious injury or even death during rescue operations. Notably, the fall arrest function remains unaffected, meaning fall protection still works correctly.
The following models are impacted:
- 3400660 - Galvanized Cable, 175 ft
- 3400661 - Stainless Steel Cable, 175 ft
- 3400664 - Stainless Steel Cable, 175 ft
- 3400667B - Stainless Steel Cable, 53.3m
- 3400662B and 3400663 models
Immediate Actions for Users:
-
Identification: Check the metal identification label to verify your device's model number and manufacturing or service dates. Only models produced or serviced between January 2022 and October 2024 are affected.
-
Assess Retrieval Use: If the device is part of a primary rescue plan:
- Remove it from service and send it in for remediation.
- Alternatively, update your rescue plan to not rely on the Sealed-Blok™ retrieval function; the device can remain in use for fall arrest while awaiting service.
If the device is not a primary rescue tool, it can continue for fall arrest use until remediated.
-
Remediation Process: Visit the relevant website for your region (e.g., www.3M.com/SealedBlokRecall) to start the remediation intake. Note that some options may not be immediately available.
Failure to act according to these guidelines may result in serious injury or death. Please consult the full model list and all provided instructions to ensure safety.
